Our Thursday Lunch Group – We have rules: 1] we don’t share our food, 2] we don’t talk while we eat, 3] we think highly of food pairing… ALAS! we forget about all the rules as soon as we see food.

Word of Caution: Not a glitzy place, but you won’t regret a second.

What to Have: If you are going there for the first time then these are the must try dishes.

Mutton Fry: (RO 2) Heard of cooked to perfection, falling off the bone, melt in your mouth etc? Well the Mutton Fry at Deccan Darbar is all that and more. We always order an extra plate because we know one is not going to be enough. The mutton pieces are cooked perfectly, which makes it so much easy to eat. Its a bit spicy for me as I do not have a high tolerance level for green chilli. Paratha:(100 baiza 1.no) Perfect accompaniment with the Mutton Fry.

Chicken Hyderabadi: (RO1.6) For some of us, an Indian meal is not complete without curry. This is the best one to try. Cooked in true Hyderabadi style with a smoke infused flavour this rich chicken gravy is sensational.

Biryani: Tender chicken and the hidden boiled egg with perfectly dum cooked rice makes this biryani a must try.

The Quickie Kind of Love

Quickies make us alllll happpy. WHY? Coz its quick and insanely satisfying. Mistake me not…for me talking about one quick fix that can make you smile, slurp, sip and sup. In India it goes by the name Gola, Chuski and in the West shaved ice popsicles.

From the beach side Ice Gola escapades in Mumbai to experimenting it in its many shapes and forms abroad, I have come a long way. Every time I take a drag from the ice i get filled with not just its sweetness but of the various memories that comes with it. The times I have shared a gola with my parents when I was a kid, as I couldn’t finish all of it to the times when I would selfishly keep it away from my hubby. So many memories of it with my friends, my sister-in-law and cousins…Gola I LOVE THEE.

First Slurp Experience

I love the Kalakhatta flavor so do most of the gola fanatics I have met. It comes in a zillion flavors and what makes it click is a special Indian salt called the ‘Kala Namak’ or black salt, even though it is pinkinsh in color. Yeah we Indians like to always have that element of surprise to everything we do. It made with Indian blueberries called jammun. Get ready to be mesmerized. Will surely wonder how can something so simple looking, taste sooooooo darn good.

Word of Caution

Opt for the kalakhatta flavor only if you do not have place important to go to. Coz after u have it your tongue and lips will be colored beyond recognition in a naughty shade of purple.

The Lovey Kind of Love

It was my milestone birthday this year and my friends and family made is spectacularly lovely. The icing on the cake was dinner at a restaurant in Muscat called ‘Love At First Bite’. With a name like that, need I say more? But I do intend to, coz this is a food experience that positively added the lovey kind of feeling to LOVE!

Lot of my friends do not know about this place and is the perfect opportunity for me to gloat. The romantic indoor shamiana or Arabian tent with silk drapes, cushions and lanterns is perfect to spend a romantic evening with that special person!

You can have a highly productive conversation just by reading the wicked and naughty menu with dishes such as ‘the way you look tonight’, ‘it’s complicated’, ‘dangerously delicious’, ‘sinfully divine’, ‘obsession’, ‘one night stand-wiches’…  Explore their menu at http://bitelounge.com/menu.html

While I enjoyed ‘Forget You’ – my strawberry margarita, my friend called for a ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ (chicken breast cooked with coriander and cream served with mashed potatoes) I must have been looking splendid ;).

Love At First Bite - food

 First Bite Experience:

The chicken was cooked to perfection. The sauce added that extra punch to the dish which was elevated by the mash and the veggies. This restaurant is doing a lot of things right. The flavours are in place, the hospitality is top notch, the ambiance is warm, cosy, elegant and not to forget romantic and the food is to die for.

It is indeed a place for celebration, a place that rekindles the lovey kind of love!
